Csallóköz és Mátyusföld
Wineries / Vineyards
Winemaking on Europe's largest mainland island.
This region, which is in fact the northern part of the so called Little Plain, is considered the living chamber of the Highlands (Felvidék).
Mátyusföld is rich in humus, the gravel and sandy soils of Csallóköz island are mainly favourable for arable crops, fruit and vegetable production, but vineyards are also cultivated in suitable areas.
In Somorja, Galánta, Ekecs and on the sands along the Danube, you can find vineyards and wineries. In addition to their own grapes, the wineries also make wine from grapes bought from the surrounding hills.
